Americana
Description
This technique is a basic move and it's applicable from multiple angles.
The most basic application is from top position, i.e. side control.
The rotation by the angle of the shoulder is the opposite than the kimura. You grab the upper arm/wrist the arm usually points up in around 90 degree bent. Your same side arm goes under the upper arm grabs your own arm.
Application
You hit this mostly from side control or mount. You grab the wrist with the opposite side hand, the elbow vlocks the head and shoulder area. The other hand slides under the upper arm and hrabs your own wrist. Thia way you apply the elbow elevation. Key details can be the arm diatance from the body and the angle of the arm, and the wrist position also affects greatly the felxibity of the opponent's arm/shoulder.
Tips
you should rotate the opponent wrist, this way the technique is more effective
not just pull upwards the opponents arm, but also pull the wrist a bit down and closer to his body
Variations
You can apply it usually from side control or from mount.
But it's also effective from side bottom, even if not for submission at least for a sweep.
From side bottom there is variation even to bend the arm with the far side leg.
Possible Damage
dislocated shoulder, elbow joint injury, maybe broken arm
Prevention Tips
grab your wrist with your other arm and pull in
pull your arm to your body baseline, so the lock will be uneffective
